Laboratory of methods and instrumentation for microorganisms studies

The Head - Grigory V. Kotelnikov, PhD

Photos of the laboratory

The lab was founded in 1965 and started its work with development of equipment for continuous cultivation of mictroorganisms ANKUM-1 (supervisor - academician N.D. Ierusalimski). Currently the lab developes both equipment for cultivation of microorganisms and instrumentation for physico-chemical studies.

Before 1980 the lab developed separate instruments for cultivation of microorganisms: ANKUM-2, ANKUM-2M, AK-3, AK-10, AK-203, AK-210. Since 1980 the lab develops automated systems: instrumentation for continuous cultivation of microorganisms, "Fermenter-PEVM" system, ANKUM-3 and so on. In these systems various physico-chemical parameters of cultivation processes are controlled by a computer.

The lab develops scanning and isothermal titration microcalorimeters. We have developed a new method of isothermat titration microcalorimetry for microsamples, a method of allocation of sensitive volume of calorimetric cells of a titration calorimeter by means of the thermal bridging. These findings were used in the development of the isothermal titration calorimeter KTD-101.

The scanning calorimetry method was used to construct a fermenter ANKUM-3 with a calorimetric mass-meter, which is used for computer control of the mass of culture fluid in the instrument.
